Worship

You are warmly invited to join us for worship on Sunday mornings. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you!

MISSION
Our worship ministries are called to develop and nurture the worship life of this congregation by:
- developing and maintaining the goals for worship as outlined in the Concept of Ministry
- prepare thoughtful and engaging liturgies of service
- leading the congregation in worship, teaching new songs and blending styles
- encouraging Spirit-led worship within the congregation

SCRIPTURE TEXT: PSALM 29: 2
"Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendour of His Holiness”

WORSHIP SERVICES
Our worship services are a unique blend of contemporary and liturgical influences.  From "How Great is Our God" to "How Great Thou Art," we, as a whole, treasure both old and new, both liturgical and informal.  Our worship services have a casual feel to them, with a praise team up front and a worship leader walking us through the liturgy.  There is a moving of the Spirit; there is also moving children.  There are enthusiastic praise songs and reflective liturgies of confession.  There has been topical preaching and in-depth biblical exegesis. Dramas are often incorporated in our worship services as well.  Worship is one of the most significant areas in which the lay leadership within Jubilee is manifested.

WORSHIP AND MUSIC COMMITTEES
A great deal of creative energy goes into our worship experiences, and the bulk of the work is done by volunteers.  Virtually every Sunday, a newly scripted liturgy is usedBa liturgy that reflects the appropriate church season and service theme.  All these liturgies, including song selections, are put together by the worship and music committees, with input from the pastor.   Jubilee as a congregation has been blessed with an exceptional number of gifted musicians, artists and worship leaders.  When the music team make-up was revised this past summer, there were 48 people willing to participate in singing or playing instruments.

VISUAL ARTS MINISTRY TEAM
The Visual Arts Ministry Team is responsible for enhancing our worship services through the use of imagery, in the use of banners, sculptures, paintings, communion table and elements, and projection backgrounds.  We follow the liturgical church year in the use of colours and themes.  In 2009-2010 the Visual Arts Team was given a $10,000 grant from the Calvin Institute of Worship through the Lily Foundation, which enabled us to make a 200’ mural which spans the back of the sanctuary.  This “Living Vine” mural was completed in three Studio sessions which followed a morning Arts in Worship themed service.  After the service we enjoyed a communal meal and then broke into art-making stations preparing art for each section of the church year.  The beginning and ending panels are embroidered with our theme verse.

WORSHIP LEADERSHIP IN THE WIDER COMMUNITY
Over the years Jubilee has had the privilege of hosting three worship conferences.  Two were large scale conferences focused on the Arts in Worship, both funded through grants from the Lilly Foundation and the third was a smaller conference led by staff from the Calvin Institute of Worship.  We have also brought in guest performers in music, drama or liturgical dance, and this year showed a drama video in one of our summer worship services.  Jubilee has also twice put on a large-scale drama & music performance of “The Life” by Michael Card.  Our Visual Arts Team hopes to hold another Arts in Worship conference at Jubilee in the future, inviting other churches to learn from our Living Vine project.
